Atlanta, GA: Lola is “Here to Serve” Its Customers.

lola.jpgI first heard of Lola from a friend when it was being built, just skeleton of what it is today. Now, it’s a bustling establishment that attracts professionals of all ages.

Here to Serve gave Atlanta a treat when the company opened their first Italian restaurant, Lola. Located at the Terminus building at the corner of Peachtree and Piedmont in the renowned area of Buckhead, its modern décor and two patios are sure to compliment any evening out (especially if one of their Bellini’s are added to the mix).

I recently went for a friend’s birthday and it was a lovely evening. A party of 8, I admit I had some trepidation going in. But, all anxiety dissolved when we were seated in a semi-circle booth-like table, allowing all of us to converse freely and without effort. Then, the complimentary Prosecco helped ease us into delicious bread and appetizers, then a mouthwatering meal.

The menu offers a good variety and seems to aim to please. I had the Grilled Salmon with Italian Cous cous, Grilled Vegetables, and Basil Pesto ($22) and it was fantastic. In fact, I completely finished my salmon, which is something I rarely do. Other dishes that were ordered included the Sogliola Livornese - Lemon Sole ($20), Sweet Pea Gnocchi with Truffle Butter Sauce ($18), Risotto Primavera with Asparagus, Morels, and Fava Beans, and the 12-ounce Strip Steak with Balsamic Onion Confit ($28). Moderately priced for its location, our bill came to $321.00, $353.00 with tip. Considering we were 8, we all had drinks, a bottle of champagne was put into the mix at some point, and they allowed an outside birthday cake to be brought in without a surcharge, I think we made out well.

Service was acceptable, but nothing to write home about. Our waiter seemed a bit rushed and he forgot little things like lemons and additional napkin. He even made an error on my to-go order. But, he humored us by taking our picture.

Parking was doable. While many restaurants in Atlanta have free valet, several in Buckhead feel free isn’t acceptable. Lola valet is $5, with the option to self park for free (validated up to three hours). Free parking does include a little but of a walk, so girls with stilettos (like I had on) need to be able to grin and bare it. Beauty takes pain, beauty takes pain. The food is worth it.
