Corned Beef for a Good Cause
I heart corned beef, even though it’s admittedly not the best cut of meat for you to eat — at least not health-wise. But, sometimes you have to make little sacrifices like that for the good of others . . .
The 2nd Annual New York City’s Best Corned Beef Contest is scheduled for Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at the 69th Regiment Armory on Lexington Avenue at 26th Street. New York restaurants compete for the honor of having the best corned beef. The entries are judged by top chefs, members of the Irish community and officials. The event, which includes a reception, begins at 6 p.m. and winners will be announced at 8 p.m. Seating is limited, so advanced ticket purchase is a must.
The event benefits the New York Regiment and Fisher House and is organized by The Friends of the Fighting 69th today (sponsored by Prudential Financial). The charity provides trust funds for 16 surviving children of 19 soldiers from the 69th Regiment who were killed in Iraq.
