Serendipity 3 Shuttered for Pests

Here’s a shocker: a cornerstone of the food scene in New York has been shuttered by the Health Department. Serendipity 3 failed its second health inspection in the past month, according to news reports. The dessert mecca apparently has a problem with pests.

According to the New York Department of Health, on Oct. 22 — during the previous failed inspection — inspectors discovered evidence of mice, vermin, cockroaches, flies and plumbing problems. They scored 41 violation points during that inspection (28 is passing). To read more, click here. Data for the most recent inspection wasn’t available Thursday night, but the restaurant is shuttered. More details to come.

Located on East 60th Street, Serendipity 3 is known for its desserts, which include the Guinness World Record holding $1,000 Golden Opulence Sundae and the more affordable Frrrozen Hot Chocolate. A new dessert, the Frrrozen Haute Chocolate was recently unveiled at a whopping $25,000. It’s alleged to be the world’s most expensive dessert. They also serve lunch and dinner.

As of Thursday night, the restaurant’s website bore no mention of the serious health hiccup.
