Ribs Done Right at Southern Hospitality
Remember when we mentioned the opening of pop/R&B singer Justin Timberlake’s new NYC restaurant, Southern Hospitality? Seems JT knows a thing or two about Southern cooking - who’d a thunk it? Any time a celebrity lends their name and street cred to a venture, restaurant or otherwise, you have to wonder how well it will do, and how long before their interest in it wanes. While it depends on the vehicle and who they’re aligning themselves with, I think its rate of success also largely has to do with how much personal involvement they have in the endeavor. Given some of Justin’s own grandmother’s recipes are featured on the hot spot’s menu, I’d say Justin rolled up his sleeves and jumped right in with this one.
Although New York Times restaurant critic Peter Meehan was unexcited about the side dish offerings at the restaurant, the ribs and the staff, however, got a hearty thumbs up.
“…the most confounding thing about Southern Hospitality is those baby back ribs. Because they are, against tall odds, good.”
“…the staff, from the hostess to the waitresses, are friendly and accommodating.”
Though not everything passed Mr. Meehan’s muster (”…Freshness is not a path worth pursuing at Southern Hospitality…”), the ribs might be worth a trip alone. Been there? Going there? Do tell!
