Deli Celebrates Anniversary With a Discount

davidsdeliDavid’s Deli, a San Francisco Jewish-style deli featuring towering sandwiches and mile-high pastries, is celebrating its 55th year in business with a 55 percent discount on selected menu items.

Throughout March the restaurant, a theater district institution, is discounting some of its famous sandwiches and entrees and all its pastries. For example, David’s is charging just $5.40 for a chopped chicken liver and schmaltz sandwich (perhaps an acquired taste, but one that is beloved by many) that normally retails for $11.95, according to an article in the J. The deli’s giant-sized apple turnovers, Napoleons, coconut macaroons and slabs of cheesecake, mocha cake and more are also discounted.

I can’t find a website for David’s, but here is a peek at the deli’s menu. The deli, located at 474 Geary Blvd. in San Francisco is open seven days a week. David’s has its ardent fans but also has had mixed reviews on the web. If you are in San Francisco during March and decide to stop in and try it out, leave a comment and let us know your experience.

I have fond memories of eating salami sandwiches at David’s as a kid. Saul’s has been my default place for a corned beef fix, but I’d like to try out David’s some time. Thanks for the writeup!

Thanks for your deli comment. I have to say, when it comes to delis you often can’t go home again. My youthful favorite, 2nd Ave in NYC, is gone. My parents’ were disappointed as adults when they took us kids to Katz’s in the Lower East Side. At least David’s is still there and you can give it a try!
