Sopranos Cafe Italian Restaurant in South Beach

Dinner. The final frontier. Or so it would seem when you are in a town not your own, looking for a simple bite to eat.

Sopranos Cafe Italian Restaurant on Lincoln Avenue in South Beach was one of the first eateries I noticed when I arrived in Miami. The name caught my eye since I am a big fan of the HBO show of the same name. It had also been suggested to me on a message board as a good place to eat . . . so of course I did!

I was sitted immediately at a private table where I could see people walking without being overtly out there on display. The people watching was great from that vantage point. It’s so interesting to see what others consider to be acceptable clothing and whatnot. But by far the most interesting sighting was this young woman with long blonde hair who strutted past once and then came back shortly after. Some boys engaged her in a brief conversation in which they asked her something and she told them that she had a boyfriend. Now mind you, this blonde was wearing a skimpy white outfit and stillettos and was standing in one of the most provacative, sexy poses ever. Her body language was saying something totally different than her words. In any case . . .

My Merlot and glass of water arrived quickly. The order was taken and the bread arrived shortly after. It was fantastic! Crispy on the outside, soft and airy on the inside. That was a total 10.

Dinner came soon after.

I had Chicken Soprano. The menu says it’s chicken prepared with prosciutto di parma, buffalo mozzarella and parmesan cheese. But it’s really a chicken breast smoothered in these things. Was it good? You betcha! The saltiness of the prosciutto contrasted well with the cheeses and chicken. I savored every scrumptious bite. But if you are dieting, this is not the dish for you.

The verdict? I would definitely eat here again. The staff was attentive, my wine was free (BONUS!!!) and the food was tasty. What more could you ask for?
