More! More! Ok stop!
When my friend suggested that we and 20 of our nearest and dearest congregate at a downtown pizza joint before a night out, I wasn’t exactly convinced. I agreed, however reluctant inside, thinking that it could be an inexpensive meal that would allow all of us to save our cash for later exploits. I just hoped that A) it didn’t suck; and B) there would be enough room for all of us inside.
Well, as it turns out, it was a very good choice. The cool thing about Pie by the Pound (please note that at time of press, the website was down) is that the pizza is sold by the pound rather than by the slice. You tell them how much of the oblong pie you’d like (”More! More! Ok stop!”) and they chop it off and toss it in the oven. There are a number of varieties that span the realm of veggie, meat and cheeses.
I was a little thrown off by the whole thing at first, to tell you the truth. It was hard to gage how much of the pie I really wanted. But once I got over that all was well.
Now onto the taste. LOVED it. My slice had fresh tomatoes and cubed mozzarella. YUM. The crust was thin and a good combination of crisp,, crunch and softness (but not chewy). Other people had ones with prosciutto or eggplant, and of course, their special chocolate pie (sorry, I didn’t have any so I can’t tell you how it is). They all looked very good. Check out Menu Pages for their full menu.
In terms of location, the Pie by the Pound we went to was located very close to Union Square and comfortably seated our entire group with room for other patrons as well (that’s always a good thing, right?). So if you are in the area, check it out . . . It’s a fun experience.
